You Just Got Engaged — Now What?(And Why Finding Your Photographer Feels So Hard)

You’re not just any couple.
You’re the ones who care about how a space feels when you walk into it. You notice lighting. Music. Energy. You host dinners that somehow turn into dance parties. You value good design, good food, and being surrounded by people who get you. You have great taste.
Your weekends look like slow coffee mornings, last-minute plans with friends, maybe a trip out of town just because you can. You’re social, but intentional. Stylish, but never trying too hard.

And now, you’re engaged!!!
And suddenly, you’re looking for a photographer.
Your algorhythm clocked it the second it happened (somehow!?)
But everything is starting to kind of look… the same?
Beautiful couples. Perfect poses. Super clean edits. It's gorgeous, but is anyone else bored out of their minds?? None of it really feels like you.
Because you’re not looking for “pretty photos.” You’re looking for something that actually reflects your real life. Photos that include actual movement. Like for real laughter, not "ok now, laugh!"

Here’s the shift: You’re not just hiring a good photographer. You’re choosing someone for their taste and 10 years of experience in a variety of other venues and circumstances.
An old boss of mine says, "you know when someone's mastered something, not by 10,000 hours of practice, but when they know how to anticipate every possible thing going wrong, and still make it work." That's the kind of person you want shooting your wedding day. The best wedding photographer for you is someone who's not only a personality fit, but an expert at their craft.
Someone who knows when to step in, and maybe more importantly, when to step back. Someone who can read a room, anticipate moments, and capture things as they unfold naturally. Someone who can pose the editorial magazine cover shot, and then keep a posture of readiness to snap the flower girl sneaking a cookie in the most adorable way.
The real moments:
Your friends absolutely losing it on the dance floor
That deep breath right before you walk down the aisle
The way your partner looks at you when no one else is paying attention
The energy of being surrounded by everyone you love in one place
That’s what actually matters.
And yeah, trying to find that in a sea of options can feel overwhelming.

So here’s my advice:
This weekend, don’t spend it buried in tabs comparing photographers.
Close your laptop. Put your phones down. Go for an evening walk, grab dinner, sit on the couch and just be together for a minute.
Because this whole thing is about you two anyway. I'm your biggest advocate in focusing on that!
When you’re ready to come back to it.... You don’t need to keep searching.
If you’re looking for someone who will advocate for your experience, prioritize real moments over posed ones, and create imagery that feels like your life; not a photoshoot. I’m here for that :)
On your wedding day, I’m not just documenting what it looked like. I’m paying attention to what it felt like, and turning that into something lasting.
If that sounds like what you’ve been trying to find, inquire here and tell me a little bit about you two.
Then close your laptop again, and go enjoy being engaged!!!
